Writing can be a lonely business. Being alone can be a lonely business. So being a writer on furlough during lockdown is somewhere around Lonely McLone-Face… But I love writing and creating. It is immensely satisfying to create something out of nothing. It’s cathartic to be able to distill an idea onto paper. Dude, I’m a writer. Regardless of what’s happening in the world, I’ll write. It’s like saying, “Whoops, I forgot to eat today.”
But sometimes I get stuck with the starting. I know I want to write, but I just don’t know what to write about. To be honest I get a serious case of this indecision when it comes to lockdown exercise. I want to go out. I know I need to go out. But I just can’t think of anywhere I want to go. I need a purpose.
So that’s where this idea of setting a writing prompt for the week came from. I’ve got more time than ever, it would be really nice to blog some more. Setting myself a topic for the week seemed like a fun way to keep me to the task.
And then…
Well, I thought about how many other writers and creatives are probably out there, stuck at home wanting to create. Maybe like me. Maybe needing a challenge, a prompt – something – to get them started. Writing doesn’t have to be lonely. You don’t have to be the crazed artist/ lonely genius if you don’t want to. Particularly in this connected world.
So I thought, why not give an open invite? Anyone who wants to respond to the prompt can too. We’ll do it together, share what we’ve created. And it would be rude to restrict it to writing – any creative medium welcome. All in. Let’s make art together!
Sound like fun? Here’s the link to join in: https://bit.ly/2VhbXFj
The Rules
- There are no rules. Respond however you like. Share if you want to, but no need at all. #adventureprompts
- Your mission, should you choose to accept it: respond to Monday’s prompt before the next prompt comes out the following Monday. We’ll keep going for the whole of lockdown.
Hope you’ll join us! I’ll be posting my responses on the blog at the usual time, so you can catch up with previous prompts if you join late.
Happy creating,
Emily
